Orchestrator & Arranger

I am an orchestrator and arranger, comfortable in a wide variety of genres but at my happiest in the swing and musical theatre worlds.

I regularly orchestrate work for large and small ensembles, including:

  • Down for the Count Orchestra
  • The London Musical Theatre Orchestra
  • West End Scratch Orchestra (Cadogan Hall Concerts)
  • City String Ensemble

My current focus is writing and arranging for the Down for the Count Orchestra, a 20- to 45-piece ensemble who evoke the sounds of the Capitol Studios recordings of the 1950s and 1960s.

I have written a suite of transcriptions of the arrangements written by Nelson Riddle, Gordon Jenkins and Billy May for artists such as Frank Sinatra, Nat ‘King’ Cole and Ella Fitzgerald including this transcription of Nelson Riddle’s arrangement of I’ve Got You Under My Skin for Frank Sinatra’s 1956 album Songs for Swingin’ Lovers.

I also write original arrangements of jazz standards in the style of these great arrangers. Below is my original arrangement of the jazz standard When I Fall In Love, performed by the Down for the Count Orchestra.

I love new orchestration challenges and in 2020 I was given the opportunity to write for City String Ensemble, whose debut EP “Twenty Twenty” features my original arrangement of a mash-up of several Bond themes – how many can you spot?!

Music engraving services

I am a fastidious music engraver and can produce high quality scores and band parts for function bands, big bands, musical theatre orchestras and more. Most of my work nowadays is done in Dorico but I am also comfortable working in Sibelius.
